Numbing Purchase

We purchased this mattress last month in an Ashley Home Store and I was excited about the buy. The mattress felt very comfortable in the showroom(that's where they get you) and I was sure that I would be getting a great nights rest on it for years to come. Boy, should I have ever done my homework. Unfortunately, this is a new line of product out from Ashley and there are absolutely NO reviews out on this mattress aside from the story that Ashley donated one of their Talalay latex mattresses to an injured Broadway SpiderMan star. I don't know, but judging from my experience with this mattress after only 2 nights, I would say he's still injured or worse. I can barely sleep on this couple thousand dollar mattress because if I lay on my back, it puts my shoulders to sleep and pinches my nerves. The mattress is MUCH stiffer than I remember from the showroom and I will be going back to test the showroom model out to confirm I am still sane and not just making all this up. The mattress that was delivered to us feels like a piece of plywood with a latex topper over it. I'm a big guy at almost 300 pounds so I guess I'm bottoming out into the base layer which doesn't seem as far down as the showroom model we tested. It feels like literally 3 inches of latex on top of a STIFF base layer. I bottom out on it and it makes my shoulders numb and tingle. I'm so disappointed. We really went out on a limb and got an expensive mattress that we planned on lasting us many years and after only 2 nights on it I don't believe I'll be able to sleep on the thing. I think the 20 year old hand me down King Koil we had before may have been much more comfortable than what we have now. There was not an implied test period or anything so there's a good chance we're stuck with this mattress now. Hopefully the owner of this Ashley Home Store will value their customers and at least let us exchange this mattress for something else in their store. I urge anyone shopping for a new mattress...Do your homework and don't get in a rush to buy a new matress! The reason I made the decision to go ahead and get this one was because we were trying to top 3000 bucks to get the 4 years no interest and we were planning on buying a mattress anyways and so I decided we should go ahead and get one from Ashley and that way we could get 4 years to pay it off and get a quality matress we may have not been able to afford otherwise. I think it was a huge mistake on my part. Find a company who lets you try their mattress out worry-free and has at least a 10 or 15 year warranty on their product. I've learned my lesson here and it's a pricey one. Research whatever type of bed you are in the market for and spend a fair amount of time doing it.....It's a big purchase and you want to do your best not to regret it. Oh, and the reason I give this mattress a 5 on durability is that I figure anything this stiff should last at least 50 years or more. God bless guys.

Has it got softer over time?

Yes, it actually has. My wife loves it. It is much more comfortable now, but I've definitely slept on more comfortable beds. It doesn't put my shoulders to sleep anymore though. A quality pillow top or memory foam mattress is a better buy Imo. We actually have memory foam pillows and it alone makes for a better night's sleep. There are memory foam mattresses out now that counteract the heat trapping effects.

With all memory foam you will experience pain in the first week after the purchase from your body adjusting to the material with time 90% of customers say they do actually sleep better that is why if you purchase any memory foam mattress you are required to sleep on it 30 days or more before being able to return. It is too bad your sales person did not prepare you for that.
