This turned out to be an expensive mistake

In August 2011 I bought a Series 8 Emerald Air Bed from Air Beds Unlimited. They have a dizzying range of styles and options for their beds. The marketing is very persuasive and I decided to give them a try. I have a Select Comfort Mattress that I like very much and thought this might be a way to get another adjustable air bed in the house. When the mattress arrived and was set up I immediately thought something was wrong. It was really soft relative to what I was used to. No point in being adjustable, there was no way to get it to be too hard. Customer service gave me a lot of razzle dazzle about how the mattress is like concrete at the fully inflated setting. Maybe it was the thick foam topper I wondered. I tried all types of variations, finally settling on fitting a bedboard between the air mattress and the foam topper. The bed was much better but hardly what I had expected or wanted. Today I bought a new mattress and was delighted to watch the delivery guys haul my $1,700 Air Beds Unlimited mattress off to the dump. It was an expensive lesson. I like to think I am a smart consumer, but I think the marketing on this bed is much better than the product. Never again.

When this customer purchased his bed in August of 2010, he called us within the first 3 days and said that the bed was too soft. He also acknowledged that the top was very nice and that the components were better than his Sleep Number™ bed. Neither the quality of the bed or the marketing of the bed were an issue. He admitted that his Sleep Number Bed™ bed had a much thinner top. We recommended that he rotate the 3" Foam Insert, so that the more firm, Latex side, would be pointing up. We also explained to the customer, that with any air bed, the design is that you sleep "IN" the bed and not on top of the bed. The customer also acknowledged that part of his issue was "Psychological" and that he was used to a much thinner top. There was no "razzle dazzle", just a simple explanation about how air beds are designed to work. Now, over 2 years later, the customer blames "marketing"? Air Beds Unlimited takes great pride in our A+ BBB Rating and in assisting our customers! We would have been more than happy to additionally assist this customer, had we known that he was still experiencing any of the issues that he had initially contacted us about, over 2 years ago. Unfortunately you cannot please everyone, in this customer's case, sleeping on concrete is not my idea of a good night's sleep. I bought my Air Bed Unlimited mattress many years ago and have no problem with it, this guy throws away thousands of dollars, he should have communicated with the company better or just slept on cement instead.
