What's your Sleep Number®?

The Select Comfort Story
Founded more than 20 years ago, today Select Comfort is one of the nation’s leading bed retailers, and for nine years running, Select Comfort was ranked by Furniture Today as the no. 1 bedding retailer in the USA.

Based in Minneapolis, the company designs, manufactures, markets and supports a line of adjustable-firmness mattresses featuring air-chamber technology, branded the Sleep Number bed, as well as foundations and bedding accessories.

In addition to its Minnesota headquarters, Select Comfort has manufacturing and distribution facilities in South Carolina and Utah. The company employs nearly 2,200 people across the United States.

Experience the Sleep Number® Difference
* Only bed with Sleep Number® settings for personalized comfort
* Adjustable firmness of each side for couples
* Clinically proven back-pain relief, improved sleep quality

For a summary of independent clinical studies, visit sleepnumber.com

On the Sleep Number® bed, a fully adjustable cushion of air gently supports the body. Its patented design distributes weight more evenly and helps reduce the pressure points that can cause tossing and turning. Each individual can get the deep, restorative sleep they need every night to wake up feeling energized every morning.

The Perfect Bed for Couples
Nine out of 10 couples don't agree on the firmness of their mattress, which means one person might be compromising on the quality of his or her sleep. With an ordinary mattress, there is typically only one firmness option.

The Sleep Number® bed delivers a better night's sleep because each individual can set their Sleep Number® to their exact firmness preference. The firmness can be adjusted anytime, independently of their sleep partner.

Best Buy in Bedding
The Sleep Number® bed was rated a “Best Buy in Bedding” from Consumers Digest magazine, and for nine years running Select Comfort was ranked #1 Bedding Retailer in the USA.

The Sleep Number® Bed
The Sleep Number® Bed is available in a variety of models, offering a broad selection of comfort layers and features. Mattresses are available in standard Twin, Full, Queen, Expanded Queen, King, California King and Grand King® sizes. In addition, the company sells pillows, blankets, bedding, mattress pads and other bedding accessories.

Select Comfort currently offers the following product lines:

“The worst bed ever! never had back pain until this bed!”

Pros:

Cons:
they never told us when we purchased the bed that it was a " build-a-bed"

Paid $2499.

The day we recieved the bed we were so happy... 30 days in we were in pain. Not just discomfort.. I m talking numb legs, middle of the back pain, shoulder discomfort, I can go on and on. After calling custiomer support they sent us foam pieces to put inbetween the topper and the air chamber. that worked for about 1 month. Then they sent us foam pieces to put under the air chambers.. not any better. So the last draw for us was the foam they sent for the third time.. 3" foam to replace two 11/2" foam?? stupid. They drug us through the ringer for almost a year until we could not take it anymore. I packed it up in boxes at 2am one night ( I really wanted to burn it!) and call the next morning and demanded a retrun or a repalcement. Well since it had been a year they would not replace it with out us purchasing another..?? So we returned it and lost $1000. for shipping and a 30% restocking fee.. This is the worst experiance ever!!

Pros:
great for first 6 months
Cons:
foam padding around air bladders crush air bladders inflate curved u roll to center and sleep in a valley

The absolute worst bed ever.  The first 6 months were amazing after that it was all down hill.  The foam padding around the air bladders crush.  Since the bladders fill in a curvature on top u roll to the center sleeping in a valley.  If you move to the othe side of the bladder you slide of the side of the bed.  Absolutely the worst bed ever designed or concieved of.

“Awful”

Pros:

Cons:
Not good

It's terrible. There is a lump in the middle andwe have one pump that went out. It's like sleeping in a hole. Talk about a backache! You can only sleep in one little spot because you can feel the outside frame all around. Then you have this big pump and wires all over. I woujld never buy this again.

“Poor quality and pump replacement is crazy”

Pros:
LIght weight
Cons:
Poor customer service for pump replacement.

I have had the bed for about 8 years or so. The foam dividers are starting to disinegrate and the gray foam is coming apart. One side of the pump went bad I and found out it would cost close to 100 dollars to replace it. I took it apart and found out a small wire had shorted out in a smale replaceable solenoid. They would not send me the part even though they could look it up in their system. I would never buy this type of bed again and would not reccommend it to anyone. It is a big store hype and way over priced for what you get.

Pros:
Nothing!
Cons:
Terrible can't sleep on it. It rolls to the center. This is the worst bed we ever slept on.

We bought this mattress from a Select Comfort Store at our local Mall; thinking this was going to be the greatest thing. A good night sleep with no aches in the morning. We have an Antique Highback full size bed and it being a small bed we at least wanted a mattress that would be great and worth keeping the bed. This mattress I would not recommend to anyone. We should have sent it back within the 30 night trial period, but thought we were not getting our numbers right to where they needed to be. Eventually it got worse and we were rolling into the center of the bed. Select Comfort was called and all they could do for us was send us a cheap mattress pad, which we paid for. They said this would resolve the problem. It did not! It was such a cheap foam pad too. It became to a point where we could no longer share the bed together. The couch was more comfortable!! Actually my dog's bed is probably more comfortable too! We ended up putting it on a spare bed until we can sale it. Which we feel bad to even do that. We don't want someone else to be out like us. We lost $2097.16 & $23.64 for the pad, which they called it a single chamber lift. Please know we rate this with No Stars, but had to rate it with one in order for this review to be taken.

Pros:
none- uncomfortable , does not hold shape.
Cons:
its just 2 individiaul air mattress with a vally in center. does not hold air, big rip off on price

Horrible bed , waste of money. 3K price, not worth $50 bucks. the controls go out , have to unplug unit to reset . mattress does not hold its shape , foam frame shifts under the Belgian sleeps service. like sleeping on a hill , keep rolling to the valley center, back ache like i've never had, over the 3 yrs of this My husband has moved to our guest room due to serious back problem and horrible sleep on this trash. . we are trying to get rid of this bedbut , i feel bad to even donate this piece of junk to goodwill . biggest ripoff of my life. Lesson learned.. Id rate it a -10 if you had that rating.

“Very Disappointing!”

Pros:
Easy to move 12 years later the motor still works
Cons:
No such thing as "the right sleep number" Causes pressure points Does not always hold pressure
  • Purchased in Nov 1998

I have no idea why the media continues to say this mattress is one of the best. It truly is like sleeping on an air mattress but costs so much more.
I would have sent it back in the first 90 days but my husband (who could sleep on anything...even the floor) did not want the "hassle".
Never have found the right number for me and believe me I have tried. Hurts my hips and shoulders by causing pressure.
I am serious about the air mattress feel, better to buy a "blow up" and put a foam topper on it!
At $1900 and the hype I expected more...
Started to link air...we are not "heavy" people.

“Select Not So Comfortable”

Pros:
Easiest bed ever to move. Breaks down to a medium sized box in size, super lightweight. Adjusts firmness when needed
Cons:
Person on the firmer side rolls onto to the softer side. The bed falls in between air chambers, taco effect.

My husband and I bought a sleep number 12 years ago (when they were simply Select Comfort beds) because he likes to sleep on something as hard as a floor, while I prefer something more like a waterbed. We first had a problem with him rolling over onto my softer side continuously, to the point he was so uncomfortable trying to balance. Selelct Comfort sent us an extra foam pad to help, which didn't, really. Now, the bed is breaking down and the middle caves in, even at the firmest setting. My husband and I haven't slept in the same bed in years because he is so uncomfortable in this bed from day one. I wake up most mornings with back pain that goes away after a couple hours up.

“White Water Rafting”

Pros:
light weight, easy to change sheets & bedskirts
Cons:
supremely uncomfortable. No variable support . Horrible outgassing smell when new, concerns about mold in the chambers now.

Every Sleep Number bed I've slept on, including the one I own, is like sleeping on a blow-up raft. Regardless the setting the bed is not supportive in the right areas. Too firm and it is like sleeping on a board. Lower settings and it sinks in the middle - Note: neither I nor my husband are heavy people. Aggravates allergies, both the outgassing of the syntethic materials and the mold in the chambers.

“Good but expensive”

Pros:
Adjustable firmness.
Cons:
Expensive.

It's great being able to adjust each side independently with the wireless remote.

“Sleep number 5000”

  • Comfort

Pros:
The bed is well constructed and comfortable at all levels of firmness.
Cons:
When one side is firm and the other much less firm, the partner with the more firm side has a tendancy to roll onto the less firm side of the bed.

The innovation available for couples to have their own preferred firmness in one bed is remarkable.
