no need for a pillow

We paid aproximately $2,000 for this bed. With in 3 months it was sagging. Over the past year that we've owned it it has sagged to the point that I can no longer use a pillow. I sink so deep that the mattress below my head is pillow height. We had to send in pictures of the bed with our complaint. They in turn sent someone out to measure the sink hole. Of course they say that it isn't deep enough to warrant a replacement or return of money. A 6 inch ditch isn't a real problem. But they measure without you laying in the bed. If it's a 6 inch ditch with no one laying in it, you know it's at least a foot once I lay down. This is the worst mattress I have ever had in my 56 years! I think they spend all their energy making the cover rich and luxurious, and the underlying components are crap. I plan on putting my review of this mattress on every site that will take reviews! DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON STERNS AND FOSTER!

joy e: we have encountered the same problem with an S&F Estate Royal Palm purchased at Sears 3/12 and was fine for about 60 days...then sank like a rock. Pillow top hides sagging, so Sears will not work with us...Unbelievable!!!!!

Thank you for sharing your experiences. I am in the selection process and need to know pros and cons.

We have the same problem. Two sink holes on the top of a very pricey bed. You cannot move once asleep because you 're laying in a hole. No help from Flannigan's or Stes and Foster. Was comfortable for about 6 months. Cannot believe this is considered a luxury brand and they charge as much as they do. They know this is a problem and they continue to make them the same way. The stores know that it is a problem and they keep selling them as a premium mattress!

I have the same problem. I replaced my $600 mattress after 20 years and it was in better shape when I got rid of it than my new $1500 stearns & foster is after 6 months. I can hardly sleep, its to hard to turn when you are stuck in a sink hole and then you get too hot. Worst thing I every bought and will probably go out an buy another $600 set so I can get some sleep. Sleepys and Stearns & Foster want to know nothing!

any innersprig you buy anywhere is going to sag i am an engeneer an they are designed to hold your body and conform to it. this iswhat it is designed to do. when i purchased my stearns and foster the girl told me that any innerspring or latex bed you are going to buy will compress. that it true if you dont want indentations than memory foam would be the way to go. indentations are normal people...if you go somewhere and buy a bed if they are honest they will tell you what to expect i researched other mattress companys before purchasing our stearns and foster some competetors it had to be more of an indentation of 3 inches before they replace it... stearns and foster its onlu 1.5 iches i love my stearns!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it blows my mind that people are putting negative comments on a mattress that is doing what its sopose to. call any bedding store or manufaturer ask them if indentations are normal and quess what they are its not rocket science.

Point of clarification: Body impressions are only "normal" because of the way that mattress companies have chosen to design their products over the past 10-15 years. This, however, does not mean that they are in any way desirable, or acceptable for that matter. You say: "ask any bedding store if body impressions are normal." I say the more relevant question is: "ask any consumer if body impressions are desirable"... I think we all know the answer you'll get.

My old over 20 yr old mattress doesn't sag or have an imprint. It is just too hard & I am too old. In looking for a replacement, I sure don't want one that sags in the middle within months! This is not the quality I'm looking for. Now I don't know what to buy. Thanks for the warning.

Thanks to all of you for your comments. I am sleeping on 25 year old Bemco ( 20 year warranty ) . No Bemco dealers remain in my area. I will continue to research other brands. To the " anonymous " engineer taht stated all mattresses sag- My 25 year old Bemco does not sag even today . My older back ,just needs a little more padding under it. Sidney Twiner- Ellisville, Ms.

I purchased this I comfort mattress June 2012. The first 6 months it was very comfortable. Then it started sinking. Someone came out to measure the bed and I was told the same thing as you will read above. It doesn't meet requirements, I stated to company why they don't measure the bed while someone is lying on it. I was told to call back in 6 months. I have been waking up with headaches and backaches. Before this I never got headaches. I will keep you posted. Please DoN't buy this bed. I have a king size.

Quoting from above: "any innersprig you buy anywhere is going to sag i am an engeneer an they are designed to hold your body and conform to it...." I take it you don't learn how to spell in engineering school, or should I say skool. Now to your post, The point of having a innerspring mattress is to provide support. I purchased a Sterns & Foster and it is now sagging very bad. It is not the same feeling that we had in the store. Will a mattress "form to your body" yes, but there is an tolerance to that. Our mattress, like others on this thread think that it is out of tolerance.

We bought our Stearns and Foster mattress a year ago at Ashley Furniture. After a few months the mattress starting sagging and a big hump in the middle, it has only gotten worse. We sleep in the guest room on a mattress we have had for 16 years, because we can't turn over and it kills our back. Ashley Furniture sent out a technician, who measured the mattress (with noone laying on the bed) and told us it was normal for a mattress to do this, and if it got worse to call back in 6 months. We gave a small fortune for this mattress, and now we are going to have to purchase a new mattress. Ashley or Sealy won't do anything?????????? This warranty is a joke. DON'T BUY FROM ASHLEY FURNITURE OR A STEARNS AND FOSTER MATTRESS-----I

I bought an S&F Louis Firm Queen mattress two weeks ago at Sears. After 10 days of use, it appeared to have sunk in the middle. I hoped that it was simply my bedding so I stripped it down to check. No such luck - the center of the mattress had a substantial "Body Impression". I took a very light 1"x 1" x 54" cedar stick and measured in a grid every 12" (four across and six up-down for a total of twenty-four measuring points). The twelve measuring points along the middle of the mattress had sunk down anywhere from -1/8" to -1" - AFTER TEN DAYS OF USE!!! I am 5'6" tall and weigh 135 lbs. If I try and sleep anywhere but the exact middle of the mattress, I can feel the edge of the drop off. I find this appalling. I had always heard that S&F was a good brand. That has not been my experience. I will be exchanging it for another brand. I cannot imagine how bad this mattress would be after a few years of use.

A year and 4 months we have owned a sterns & Foster Mattress and it is the worst mattress we have ever owned. paid over $ 1700.00 and within 3 months we had deep impression of our body in the Mattress. we were told had to drop 2 inches before they could do anything. it was already 1 and 1/2 inch within 3 months of purchase. I called the local store that we purchased from and I got a run around, but during that time I was taking pictures with my camera and using a yard stick which, I laid across the sink holes. and used a 2nd yard stick to show depth. And I have taken pictures every month since up until the last phone call to the store we made the purchase, I began to call the store and ask for someone to come and look at the mattress, my request was refused by saying we don't do that. I beg for the store to send a rep but always excuses.. The last call I made to the store, I was told to send pictures so I selected the ones that were clear and you could see the droop really well. I waited about 3 weeks and did not hear from the store so I called them. And this is what I was told: The owner said showed the rep of Sterns and Foster and he said looked like I was pushing the stick into the mattress. I expected that because I have had nothing but excuses since the dips began.. To think that we disposed of a good mattress that we had used for 17 years and NO DIPS in that one, I just thought I would like to get a new mattress Oh, how we regret that purchase. The consumer should have some protection from these people who sell a bad product and the consumer suffers the cost of money and sleepless nights. Anonymous

You know the story of the 3 little pigs? Well..... I swear the Stearns & Foster mattress we bought back in Oct. 2013 ("Jacalyn") (it's already been discontinued) was made by the piggie that used straw to build his house ! Feels like I'm sleeping on straw.... no support what so ever ! I slept on it alone and turned it all the time and both sides are sagging so bad I'm under a doctor's care for my back pain ! Also there's a huge hump in the middle....! I tell everyone NOT to buy this brand of mattress.....! Unless you like sleeping in a hole.....! The company should be ashamed of themselves selling such a worthless over priced piece of junk ! Thanks for ruining my back and my life.....!

We purchased a king sterns and foster Lois from Sears and it was suppose to be firm. My husband only slept on it for a week and was sent back to Afghanistan. Well it started sagging after 3 months. He cannot even sleep on this mattress now, it hurts his back. When I make the bed you can really see the sleep holes. I don't want my mattress to surround me. I want to lay on the mattress not in it. Sterns and foster should call the people who bought their mattresses and let us tell them how to make a mattress that we could sleep on. Sears has no intentions of replacing this mattress. Janell December 22, 2014

You know I have sat here reading all of these "complaints" and not one positive review from any of the customers Stearns and Foster mattresses? This is all BS! Sealy owns Stearns and Foster and I have 2 Stearns and Foster beds the oldest is 30 years old and no sagging and in perfect shape. My more recent is a plush pillow top which after 11 years is starting to sag on one side. I am purchasing a new Stearns and Foster and I would highly recommend these beds. They are pricey but the materials and quailty is unsurpassed. Cashmere and titanium all hand crafted in special factories by the finest craftsmen in the USA. Sealy puts there very best to make these babies and it shows. Since folks do not source the reviews it is obvious that these are "haters" from other bed manufacturers! Haters have fun, my new bed arrives on Saturday! Sleep tight!

We are having similar problems with our bed-I do not sleep on it and the wife says she has a hard time sleeping on it because of the sagging in the middle of it. This is the first sterns and foster bed we ever bought and I cannot believe how bad it go within a few years time. We never ever had a bed do this before. I guess we were lucky with out other beds and they cost a lot less than this one did. It seems that quality control and material quality were left out of these materials when they made them. I sure wish I heard about these problems before we bought ours. I thought because of the price that it would be a good bed unfortunately it was a bad decision on my part.

My first mattress purchase back in the seventies was a Stearns and Foster and it was great. Well recently went to Macy's and purchased a Stearns and Foster Estate queen. The mattress looked and felt great. I am a woman weighing 130 lbs and within 30 days it began to sag. You could barely roll over it was ridiculous. Called Macy's they said give it time to break in. I waited till right before the 60 days return window with no improvement. I had to pay for the pickup and a 15% hit on the price but Macy's picked it up and I received the refund within a week. I am 65 and never had to return a mattress in my life. But glad I did. Thanks to this site I discovered my Spindle mattress which was recommended in the survey. I LOVE IT!
